I began this rug hooking piece after the birth of my son in September 2024. It was meant to carry me through the post-partum year as a project to keep me connected to my art practise, despite all the changes ahead of me. I have so many feelings about motherhood, invisible labour, and duty to family that are layered into the meaning of this piece. The image is a tribute to my grandfather, and the work was created as an inheritance gift to my son. This piece is still in progress.
The piece measures 3 x 5 feet.
Monotypes using a variety of methods from tetra pack intaglio to plexiglas plate tracing.
